In-store promotions - Introduction
Introduction
The objective behind this EMIA scheme is to provide financial assistance to groups of five (5) or more exporters (specifically SMME or HDI manufacturers) to exhibit/showcase their products at targeted and respected retail outlets abroad. Like exhibitions, in-store promotions, can be a powerful way of promoting your firm's products in foreign markets. The benefit is that you will have the backing of a recognised retailer in the target market. This method of promotion also gives the retailer overseas the opportunity to offer its customers as special promotion. Note that assistance is only provided for one (1) representative per registered exporter per in-store promotion application. Export Trading Houses, Commission Agents and Industry Associations are excluded from assistance under this offering. Applications for this offering must be submitted at least two (2) months prior to the commencement date of the in-store promotion.
While an in-store promotion does not offer the same data gathering opportunities as a foreign exhibition, you will get the chance to speak to potential customers and to gauge their reaction to your products. What is more, you can use your timne while overseas to do some data gathering outside of the in-store promotion (for example, after hours, during lunch, and after the promotion has ended). As this form of promotion serves as part of your market-entry process, we suggest that you also read up on the following topics:
- Selecting potential foreign markets to enter
- Using exhibitions and trade fairs to promote your firm and its products in foreign markets
